Red Bull Canvas Cooler Glasgow

Last Thursday we had Red Bull Canvas Cooler at SWG3 in Glasgow.  Below are a couple of images and some info on the night.  Was really good fun and Charlotte did an amazing job putting it all together

Red Bull Canvas Cooler

Last night, hidden beneath the Low Level railway line in Studio Warehouse Glasgow (SWG3), fifteen of Scotland’s best art talents created bespoke coolers as part of the unique art project; Red Bull Canvas Cooler.

Through the project, Red Bull enables artists to utilize their talents and let their creative juices flow on a piece of work which will have a lasting legacy in some of the most iconic venues in Scotland. The artists collaborated with the most cutting edge bars in Glasgow and Edinburgh, working on designs to compliment the spaces where the fridges will be installed.

The day kicked off at a sociable 10am as the artists arrived at the venue, eager to start their designs. The artists had a full day to work on their cooler and it was clear that the room was not only full of spray paint fumes but original, raw talent.  Once completed, the fridges were exhibited on the second level at SWG 3 which provided a platform to showcase the unique coolers to friends and family across Scotland’s art community.

The high caliber of artists which took part included talent across many genres.  Spray artists such as Amy Whiten, Colin Davidson AKA Conzo, Mark Lyken and Ben Longstaff AKA FiST executed colour and stencilling.  Mosaque and jewellery designer Ruth Holywood covered her blank canvas in mirrored tiles.  There was gitter splashing, oil painting, graff art and illustrating by Gaz Mac, Jen Macfadzean and Erin McGrath. Cammille Lorrigo and Carmen Masson created intricate textile designs and Ali Wylie displayed dimension, depth and texture through digital camouflage.

If you’re visiting Glasgow or Edinburgh in the coming months, why not check out the unique fridges yourself?

Visit  - Tigerlily, The Blind Pig, Sub Club, Stereo, Hummingbird, Treacle, Flat 0/1, Bar Soba, Butterfly and the Pig and Arches Café Bar.

BUDS 2011

UNIVERSITY SKIERS AND SNOWBOARDERS RAISE THE BAR AT BUDS 2011

11th/12th November 2011

To kick off the 2011 / 2012 Ski and Snowboarding season Edinburgh welcomed over 1700 students from 70 universities across the UK for the annual British University Dry Slope (BUDS) competition organised by the British University Snowsports Council (BUSC).  With the event returning to Midlothian Ski Centre, skiers and snowboarders competed in ski and snowboard slalom, grand slalom, boarder X, Slopestyle, The Big Air and finishing off in style with the Freeze Pro Shop Pro Am.

The event is usually treated to plenty of wind, rain and sometimes snow but 2011 had some of the best weather in recent years which presented great conditions for competing and spectating.  Friday kicked off with the Ski and Snowboard Slalom, followed by the BUCS Snowboard GS and to finish the day off with the SnowSkool BoarderX.

It’s safe to say that the party on Friday night at Ocean Terminal went down incredibly well as it was a slow start for all on the Saturday morning.  It wasn’t long until the event was back in full swing with DJ’s from the Red Bull Truck getting the crowds back on their feet for upcoming competitions.  The Freestyle Skiers and Snowboarders raised the bar this year with the level of competition at its highest in years, spectators were treated to some incredible tricks most notably a double front flip from Skier Jack Tibbs.

The Womens snowboarding Slopestyle and Big Air saw Anna Beswick (University of Bradford) claiming 1st place whilst the Ski Slopestyle was won by Cardiff Universities Sarah Hoeffin.  The Ski Big Air honours were claimed by Sarah Hopwood from Exeter University.  The Synidicate Slopestyle and Big Air was dominated by two guys North of the Border, taking 1st in both events on Skis was Cammy Nichol from Napier University and taking the honours in both snowboarding events was Dundee Universities impressive Danny McCormick.  The Freeze Pro Shop Pro Am didn’t disappoint with Matt McCormick taking best trick, Jesse Smith winning the snowboard and Murray Buchan winning on Skis.

Whirlwind Week // Red Bull Mini Drome Glasgow

Before I left for my holiday I had one little thing to do and this being Red Bull Mini Drome in Glasgow.  The 2nd of October came around incredibly quick and it seems that summer only started yesterday and is now over.

This event was amazing to put on and with a few challenges along the way we got there and everything was truly awesome.  The large image below shows just how incredible the venue was, stoked with how it all looked is an understatement.

Below are some incredible images captured by Rich Kenworthy  who did an awesome job in capturing the event .  There is also a great film of Red Bull Mini Drome Glasgow that you can see if you Click HERE
